EoneE has granted the pre-research project "electrolyser" with 430 000 NOK funded by the Regional Research Council of Norway. The Research Council works to enhance the quality of Norwegian research and to promote innovation and sustainability. The regional funds were introduced as part of a political reform to transfer power from national to regional authorities.
This pre-research project will contribute to EoneE becoming a leading national prosecutor within the fields of locally produced hydrogen and ammonia with mobile and compact systems for industries with needs for green transportation. Hydrogen is an important energy carrier in the transport and industry of the future and today hydrogen is a focus area in the regions.
The key to the company's success is an innovative idea for the production of hydrogen from water with Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysis. Today's PEM electrolysis technology gives an efficiency of about 50-65%, the idea in this project can reach an efficiency of 70-80%. This means that the cost of hydrogen production with the technology in this project is significantly lower compared to competing technologies. The innovation is a new design and a new patentable technology with the use of a "proton exchange membrane" where a significant increase in efficiency is achieved compared to current technology.
